How To Get There?
Open the map, and you will find the mountain of Kazbek in the northeast of Georgia. From the Georgian capital Tbilisi take a bus to Stepantsminda. It is only 10 kilometers away from the Russian border. A small town of Stepantsminda is the center of the Kazbegi Municipality where you can try real Georgian hospitality in guesthouses. So, don't lose your chance to taste delicious Caucasus dishes. Additionally, there is a possibility to order various activities in the area, such as paragliding, horse-riding, bike-riding. However pilgrimage to the Gergeti Sameba Church, and climbing the Kazbek Mountain are no less popular.
What Should You Know Before Climbing?
Starting your climb from Stepantsminda, you will pass through the Gergeti Sameba Church. Only the bravest adventure seekers will go farther. Apparently, you are one of them, aren’t you?

Should you be trained to climb Kazbek?
Yes, you should have some basic knowledge of rope technique and special equipment. Also, skills of walking on a glacier wearing crampons are important. Although Kazbek is the seventh-highest peak among the Caucasus Mountains, it is even more challenging than Elbrus.
Plan to spend one week for climbing the summit. Stay in a hut of meteo station at the altitude of 3700 meters to practice your mountain skills. Then you can climb the 4200-meter high Kazbek Pass, and start your ascent to the very summit.
